The startup of the 6th unit of Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant based on the WWER-1200 project means that Russia has outrun its rivals in nuclear power technologies, says Chief Editor of AtomInfo.ru Alexander Uvarov.
RIA Novosti quotes Uvarov as saying that this is the world’s first unit operating a 3+ reactor. Neither Westinghouse nor Areva have so far built such a reactor.
Earlier Rosenergoatom Concern reported that the newly built WWER-1200 reactor of Novovoronezh NPP is being fuelled.
WWER-1200 is based on NPP-2006 project and complies with all IAEA requirements.
The reactor uses both active and passive safety systems. (energy-experts.ru)
