Ukrainian Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Ostap Semerak, Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) Director General Ihor Hramotkin and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development President Suma Chakrabarti have signed a Memorandum on the allocation of additional funds worth EUR 40 million to complete the construction of a storage facility for spent nuclear fuel.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Vice Prime Minister Hennadiy Zubko, as well as representatives of delegations of various countries were present at the solemn ceremony on signing of the memorandum, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
Poroshenko stressed that the money will be used to finance the construction of a storage facility for spent nuclear fuel. The President also added that he expects that a research center in the Chornobyl exclusion zone will be built.
In his speech, he also expressed hope for further cooperation with other countries to eliminate the aftermath of the Chornobyl disaster.
